Netflix fans are urging others to binge a huge thriller in the next few hours, as season two is about to land on the streaming platform.

The Night Agent first dropped in March 2023, and scored a whopping 98.2million views in just its first 91 days on Netflix.

It became the most-watched series of that year, and a second instalment starring Gabriel Basso is now coming.

The 30-year-old actor is reprising his role as secret agent Peter Sutherland, as he continues life-endangering missions for an FBI programme.

He’ll be joined by Luciane Buchanan who plays Rose Larkin, a cybersecurity expert he was romantically involved with in after they went on the run together in season one.

Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, season one ended with Peter heading to his first official mission as a night agent, after a promotion as a reward for discovering a terrorist conspiracy from within the walls of the White House and saving the President’s life.

‘Peter’s efforts to save the president were successful, and now he’s earned the opportunity to become a Night Agent. Working in the secretive organization Night Action in Season 2 will push Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply,’ Netflix teased ahead of the upcoming season.

Season one scored a seriously impressive 74% Rotten Tomatoes score, and fans now just have a few hours to catch up.

After it was initially released, fans rushed to share its praises, with one reviewer, Maun, writing: ‘It’s a great thriller with hidden enemies inside white house they get revealed in between still series remains a great one to watch not at all boring each episode brings great twists and turns so one of the best series to binge watch.’

David said: ‘This hits the sweet spot for a very enjoyable escapist thriller. Breathless action and suspense, but with multiple interesting personal relationships.

‘The hero and heroine are likeable, relatable, and competent. The featured assassins are less likeable, but are also competent and have an interesting relationship.

‘It is not just about murder, betrayal, car chases, and explosions, but it does have all that. At the end of every episode we wanted to know what was going to happen next, so we couldn’t stop watching.’

Zykeerah said: ‘The actors were incredible I finished in 2 days,’ while Jessica added: ‘Phenomenal show! The acting, the stunts, the plot, the suspense. Everything about this show got me hooked! Can’t wait till Season 2.’

Ahead of the new series, Gabriel reflected on season one’s immense success, telling Metro: ‘I try not to think about the first, the former, because I think time is a very valuable resource, and it freaks me out to see how easy… not that the show wasn’t good, but how easy it is for people to throw their time away on something.’

He continued: ‘In terms of the pressure, there’s not really pressure on me to do a good job, because that’s always there. Anything I do, I try to do the best thing I can.

‘It’s motivating I think for the crew. It’s motivating to know on those brutal night shoots that it’s all going to a show that people are going to see. You’re not just pouring it all into a void.’

The Night Agent season 2 premieres on Thursday, January 23 on Netflix.
