Kasim felt he didn’t live up to expectations on The Traitors (Picture: BBC/Ella Millward)
The Traitors star Kasim Ahmed has apologised to fans of the BBC series for his performance.
Now the third season is over Kasim has reflected on his full experience and acknowledged the commentary on his participation – both the positive and negative. Taking it all on board the sweet reality star has decided that he may not have lived up to high expectations set from early episodes.
The 33-year-old doctor jokingly referred to himself as ‘the poundland equivalent of a fine waitrose Jaz’. Jaz Singh became a bit of a Traitor hunter in series two earning the nickname Jazatha Christie. Meanwhile, Kasim had all the markings of the same kind of detection skills but after being unable to convince his fellow faithfuls of his innocence he was banished.
Making his standpoint clear in the thread on Reddit, he said: ‘Firstly, I wanted to apologise to you all. I know expectations for me were high, but ultimately fell flat pretty quickly.
‘I promise there was at least some logic to every decision I made (including Nathan, who I can only apologise too!).’ Faithful Nathan Khider was the first player to be banished, with Kasim being one of the players making his wrongful suspicions clear.
He added: ‘Knowing what I do now its pretty clear that I was never going to last in the game! Either way, I admit that I probably was more of a hindrance than a help for most of the game.

‘Sometimes, in stressful situations, people can act erratically. I firmly believe that its not how you act that defines you, but how you respond when challenged by your patterns,’ Kasim went on to explain.
He then praised his fellow players, with particular shoutouts for the last remaining traitor Charlotte Berman. He also took the time to celebrate Francesca Rowan-Plowden who convinced the group to vote out Charlotte after she won the seer card and found out the truth. However, she couldn’t quite make it to the final moments with fellow faithfuls deciding to banish her.

The series was eventually won by Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown with the pair sharing £94,000. They split the prize fund after making it to the last two and ensuring that no traitors were stood with them. As is often the case with reality TV not everyone was happy with the outcome, with some wishing Minah Shannon, who left days before the finale, could have clinched it.

‘[They] are without a doubt deserving winners, and are both brilliant humans who played the game like the heroes they are,’ Kasim stated.
The final player to get kind words from the self-deprecating Kasim was Alexander Dragonetti.
‘What are the odds of the group removing one nice, goofy, coeliac, and replacing me with an even nicer, goofier and coeliacer Alexander?! I may have failed you, but we can all agree that I was replaced by something much better,’ he wrote.
The lengthy message was summarised with Kasim highlighting just how much work goes into creating one of the most popular series on TV right now.
‘The production team was huge, and each person made a difference to the journey that I had, and that you’ve all enjoyed. I want to thank the entire crew for all their hard work, this season was bigger than it has ever been and its been an honour to be part of it!’ he concluded.
Kasim may not have been correct at each round table, but he was certainly right about the series’ impact.
BBC shared that the episode was watched live by an ‘average audience of 7.4million on Friday night’, making it the most watched The Traitors episode ever in BBC One’s history.
The overnight viewing figures were also compiled with a further 4.8million people tuning into the finale as well as an extended episode of The Traitors: Uncloaked podcast.

Kasim didn’t win, but he’ll forever be in the history books for being at the centre of one of the most tense round tables.
In the dramatic scenes, his job as a doctor was given as a potential reason for Kasim being a traitor.
Kasim hit back: ‘You’re basically calling me Harold Shipman.’ Viewers branded the unexpected reference ‘insane’, and Kasim later apologised.
The Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
