Peter Grant was a star of radio and TV
BBC radio and TV star Peter Grant has died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.
Grant appeared on radio shows Magic, Hallam FM, Plymouth Sound, Durham FM, Radio Aire, TFM and BBC Radio Newcastle and Tees. He also hosted TV show Made In Tyne and Wear, as well as providing travel and weather updates on BBC Look North breakfast.
Heartfelt tributes have been shared for Grant.
Former BBC Radio Newcastle broadcaster Alfie Joey called Grant ‘relentlessly positive’.
‘Even when he was given his cancer diagnosis last year he said he wasn’t going to dwell on the negatives,’ Joey wrote on Facebook.
‘Thoughts and love to his wife Sarah-Jane & family. And fond memories of some happy times together, on and off air. RIP Peter.’

‘Just as friendly and upbeat with folks off-air as he was on-air,’ said Graeme Pickering, who worked with Grant on the Magic 1170 breakfast show.
BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Tees broadcaster Simon Logan added: ‘R.I.P Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind, generous and so positive all the time.’ He also praised Grant for being a ‘radio legend’.
This was echoed by ex-Look North newsreader Colin Briggs who said Peter was a ‘proper pro at everything he did.’
BBC Radio Tees producer Anthony Day had an equally positive story of their encounters.
‘I did my first ever radio car live with Peter on Boxing Day 2013 at the Seaburn dip @bbcnewcastle,’ he recalled.
‘I was very nervous but he put me at ease with his humour, fun and kindness. RIP.’
Grant began his career in broadcasting in 1982, continuing until 2019.
He used his X account to keep followers updated as he underwent treatment for cancer.
‘My 10th chemo infusion today – how time flies! My thanks to everyone at University Hospital of North Durham for looking after me so well. My six month check up & CT Scan is next week so fingers crossed! Thank you too to everyone who messages me with good vibes & energy x,’ he wrote.
