An Apple TV comedy series that fans said ‘beat their expectations’ when first tuning in has returned with rave reviews for season 4.

Premiering as Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet in 2020, the series now simply known as Mythic Quest follows a fictional video game studio that produces a popular MMORPG called Mythic Quest.

Co-created by and starring It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney as Ian Grimm, the creator and creative director of the game, the series begins as the studio is about to release a major expansion pack to the game.

In its review of the first season, Time said it ‘may well be the single funniest thing I’ve watched this year’.

‘In taking on the complex, under-examined world of video gaming, the creative team gave themselves a rich area in which their wild, clever, selfish characters can bounce around unlike any other currently on TV,’ Variety wrote.

Meanwhile others said the show could become ‘the next Office’.

The series returned for a second season in 2021, followed by a third in 2022.

Over the years viewers have said the show ‘doesn’t get enough hype’ and urged others to catch up.

This week the first two episodes of season 4 hit screens, with the reviews this time around just as glowing.

‘Still fast paced and laugh out loud funny. Hard to do in your 4th season!’ Jonathan posted on Rotten Tomatoes, where it holds a 100% rating.

Meanwhile Andrew said it was ‘off to a great start’.

Collider added that while ‘Mythic Quest was already a must-see series, Season 4 is easily one of its best yet’.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2021, Rob spoke about the show slowly picking up a loyal audience.

‘I’m excited that people have found the show, and they’ll say things like, “Why did I not know this was on? Or how did I sleep on this?”,’ he said.

‘I just love this show. I just love it. I love working on it. I’m so proud of it and I just want more and more people to see it,’ he added.

Mythic Quest also stars Ashly Burch as Rachel Mayee, Jessie Ennis as Jo, Imani Hakim as Dana Bryant, and David Hornsby as David Brittlesbee.

Mythic Quest is streaming on Apple TV Plus.
