Dexter star Michael C. Hall has teased that big things are on the way as filming gets underway for spin-off series Dexter: Resurrection.

The actor is currently providing voice work for the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which focuses on the Bay Harbor Butcher’s baby steps as a fledgling serial killer.

With the prequel on a one-week mid-season hiatus, the actor, 53, has shared an exciting glimpse at the character’s future – revealing that shooting has already begun on its sequel.

Set after the events of the 2022 miniseries New Blood, this follow-up will see Michael fully reprise the role of Dexter Morgan – who has some tough questions to answer after being exposed as a serial killer and shot by his estranged son, Harrison.

Its prequel, which has currently aired six episodes so far, revealed that Dexter survived the seemingly-fatal gunshot, and is reliving his past – where he is played by Patrick Gibson, 29.

And, as he prepares to embody Dexter once more, Michael has teased that big things are on the way.

In an Instagram post shared to the pages of Showtime, Paramount and the official Dexter page, Michael shared his exciting update.

‘Hey, what’s up? It’s Michael C. Hall. I am on the set for the first official day of production for Dexter: Resurrection,’ the actor said.

‘It’s happening. I am looking forward to taking another thrill ride and when all is said and done, to you taking the ride with us. Stay tuned.’

‘Hello again, Dexter Morgan 🩸 #DexterResurrection is officially in production 🎬’ read the caption which accompanied Michael’s video.

In the comments below, fans were thrilled to see the original Bay Harbor Butcher back in action.

‘THANK GOODNESS! Am currently watching the new show. Dude, it’s gotta be you. I’m not throwing shade at the young actor….he’s great. You’re Dexter though,’ wrote rsue.

‘Exactly!! Dexter isn’t Dexter without HIS smile!’ agreed _katy_pepper.

‘🙌🏼🙌🏼 wow this is such an exciting time for us Dexter fans. I’m devouring original sin and look forward to resurrection!!’ cheered namzbecca.

Meanwhile, Michael’s younger counterpart, Patrick Gibson, also added his voice to the chorus of dearly devoted Dexter-ites, sharing a goat emoji in the comments.

This marks the third time lucky for Dexter, which originally ended in 2013 with one of the most reviled endings to a TV show ever – Dexter faking his own death, hanging up his butcher’s knife and becoming a depressed lumberjack in a cold American wilderness.

The show had a second about-bat with Dexter: New Blood, but disappointed fans yet again with a second flubbed ending – leaving Dexter seemingly dead as the credits rolled.

It was announced last year that Dexter would be returning for not one but two spin-offs – the currently airing prequel Original Sin and Resurrection, which would be a continuation of his story.

Set in 1991 Miami, Original Sin sees young Dexter embark on his career with Miami Metro Police Department, attempting to balance his murderous urges with his work as a forensic lab rat.

With Michael narrating as the older Dexter, star Patrick is joined by Christian Slater as conflicted dad Harry Morgan, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar as lab boss Tanya.

What remains to be seen is what will become of the older Dexter, currently bleeding out from a gunshot wound in chilly Iron Lake, New York.

Third time’s the charm?

Dexter: Original Sin is currently airing on Paramount +. You can stream Seasons 1-8 of Dexter on Netflix and Dexter: New Blood on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and Sky.
