BBC thriller The Capture lauded as ‘absolutely gripping’ and ‘mind-blowing’ by viewers is imminently arriving on Netflix.
The two-season crime drama, which first aired in 2019, explores the ‘terrifying world of deepfake technology’ through the eyes of ‘ambitious young Detective Inspector’ Rachel Carey played by Holliday Grainger.
In the first season, we follow a solider Shaun Emery (Callum Turner) whose past conviction of murder in Afghanistan (overturned due to flawed video evidence) comes back to haunt him on his return to London after damning CCTV footage comes to light.
The second season, starring Paapa Essiedu as politician Isaac Turner, finds Rachel in the middle of a new conspiracy – with a new target’ and ‘features “invisible” assassins, the terrifying rise of deepfake technology, the ever-growing tension between government and Big Tech, and corruption at the heart of the British media.’
The show has been hugely well-received, receiving a brilliant 96% on Rotten Tomatoes (with the second achieving a perfect 100%) and a slew of good reviews.
‘Absolutely gripping show. Moves at a great pace with great actors and a great story line. Twists and turns and super realistic to the current world,’ an anonymous Rotten Tomatoes user wrote.

The show’s arrival on Netflix is made all the more exciting by the recent rumours of a season three renewal, per The Mirror, three years after the second season.
Reflecting on the possibility of a third season in September 2024, Paapa told Radio Times: ‘Ben Chanan, who writes the series, I know it’s a story that’s very close to his heart, but I actually don’t remember about the future of it. But I loved working with him and I thought those scripts were amazing.
‘I thought that character was so interesting and he lands in quite an interesting place by the end of that series, so who knows what the future holds for him?’
The Capture lands on Netflix on Friday, January 31.
