Applications are now open for The Traitors (Picture: BBC/Studio Lambert/Llara Plaza)

The Traitors is one of the best shows on television, featuring antics including faked Welsh accents and the campest funeral in history, so it’s no wonder you might want to apply for the BBC show.

Since hitting screens at the end of 2022, the reality series hosted by Claudia Winkleman has picked up a loyal audience who can’t get enough of the twists, turns, and backstabbing as contestants participate in banishments and murders.

If you’re ready to channel your inner Meryl Streep, or should we say Linda, as a traitor or win the internet over with your expert traitor hunting skills, a la Jazatha Christie, you have weeks to put your name forward.

The applications for The Traitors season 4 are already underway – and close on Saturday, February 9.

The advert from the BBC reads: ‘The Traitors is a competition series built on strategy, suspicion and deception, filmed in the Scottish Highlands. A team of players will compete in a series of missions, the more missions they complete successfully, the bigger the prize pot.

;However, hidden amongst the players are the Traitors. The Traitors meet in secret and decide who to eliminate from their fellow players known as the ‘Faithful’. The aim for the Traitors is to stay undetected until the end, the aim for the Faithful is to banish all of the Traitors before the game ends. Throughout the series, there will be twists, turns, rigorous challenges, shocks and surprises for the players.

‘A game of trust and treachery… do you have what it takes to play?

Following that, an application form with 11 questions helps producers discover an individual’s character traits.

Applicants must be aged 18 and over and legally reside in the UK. They must also be available for filming for four weeks in the spring or summer.

The Traitors executive producer Mike Cotton told Metro.co.uk they didn’t want people to sign up who were searching for fame.

‘We’re actively looking for people who have got a passion for playing that game, and potentially might come to it with a game plan or a strategy,’ he said.

‘But we’re also looking for people who can bring something from their own lives to it, whether that’s a skillset, whether that’s from a past job, whether that’s a hobby, or some sort of life experience that they’ve had.

‘What I find fascinating is that you don’t have to be the smartest, you don’t have to be the prettiest, you don’t have to be the strongest to win this game.’

He added: ‘It’s a bit like when you’re putting together a jury I guess, in that we look for people from all sorts of different backgrounds and all walks of life that we can put together, that give us a diverse cross-section of the UK.’

What to expect from the application process

In the application, you will be asked questions about whether you’ve tuned into The Traitors and, if so, what you thought of previous players’ games.

You are also questioned about whether you’d like to be a traitor or Ffithful and to explain why, as well as what your strategy to win would be.

Things then get even more personal, as you’re asked to disclose the biggest lie you have ever told and if you got away with it.

Following on from that, you are then asked to share if you’re good at keeping secrets, and what is the biggest one you’ve kept.

The form then goes on to ask if you would be more likely to make a decision based on your head and heart and why, what has been the most significant moment in your life so far and how has it shaped you as a person, as well as asking how people closest to you would describe you.

It then rounds out by asking about what you are most passionate about in life, why you should be picked to compete, and the all-important question about how you would spend the prize money if you won.

Applicants must also film a one-minute video that introduces themselves, outlines their game plan, and why they want to take part.

Filming for the third series will take part at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands in spring or summer this year and applicants must be able to commit to filming for up to four weeks.

Applications can be found here.

The Traitors is available to stream on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
