Alison Hammond is fronting another new show and this time she’s bringing a family member along with her for the ride.

For Alison Hammond’s Florida Unpacked, her travel buddy is someone she knows very well… her son Aidan Hammond. The pair are travelling around the American state to give BBC viewers savvy travel tips to brighten up the winter months. If anybody can bring some light to January it’s surely national treasure Alison.

The project marks Aidan’s first big foray into the world of TV but as the child of Alison, 49, we’re pretty sure he’ll be a natural.

Before he makes his big debut, let’s take a look at his career so far and the relationship he shares with Alison…

Who is Alison Hammond’s son Aidan?

19-year-old Aidan is the son of Alison and ex-finance Noureddine Boufaied, a cab driver from Manchester. The pair split in 2014 with Alison explaining: ‘Over time we realised we weren’t compatible. He wanted to be in Manchester and I wanted to be in Birmingham.

‘Eventually we split up. Nourddine became an every-other-weekend dad, and in time, we saw him as and when he wanted to see Aidan.’

She’s spoken about her guilt in not being able to stay with Noureddine and maintain a traditional family: ‘I felt that failure with my son’s dad when we broke up but he moved on and has three other kids now and they are part of our life.’

Alison added on This Morning that she’s ‘thankful’ they’ve been able to successfully co-parent.

Their relationship brought her the best gift – Aidan, who arrived into the world on Alison’s 30th birthday. She now regularly describes him as her twin who was just born 30 years later in 2005.

‘Our personalities are very similar,’ she told Hello! magazine.

‘I’m so proud of the kind young man he’s turned into.’

However, it’s not been without its challenges. On top of motherhood, Alison has been grinding to become the TV star that she is known as today.

Reaching this point of being at the helm of This Morning, The Great British Bake Off and For the Love of Dogs has not come without sacrifices at home. She publicly apologised to Aidan for being away from him during his childhood.

‘I’ve sacrificed a lot of time with my son and I just want to say to my son, I love you so much, son,’ she said while accepting a Role Model award at the Multicultural Business and Community Champion Awards in Birmingham.

‘And I’m so sorry I haven’t always been there, but I’ll be honest with you, the reason I was doing it was only for you.’

Their relationship has only got closer over the years and now that Aidan is a full grown-up Alison, who is in a relationship with David Putman, says he’s become more opinionated about the men she dates.

While appearing on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s podcast Parenting Hell, Alison said: ‘It’s more difficult, he is more verbal now that he is older. He’ll want to know who this person is and he’ll want to meet them.

‘It’s a lot harder. He’ll wanna know that this guy is treating me well.

‘The person who I am seeing at the moment, he is on his Instagram and is like “yeah I like him, he’s not too in your face”. Aidan is on it.’

His approval is instrumental in Alison’s relationships continuing. ‘Normally Aidan hates anybody I date, literally just not interested.

‘And you just know at that point, if Aidan doesn’t like them, this isn’t gonna work. There are moments where I think, ‘who’s the parent here?!’

’It’s nice though because I always feel like there’s someone there looking over me, protecting me.’ Luckily, David, 27, has won over Aidan.

Aidan Hammond’s music career

Being the son of one of the UK’s biggest TV stars means that Aidan has been on the radar of execs for a while. In 2023, he was said to have been approached by Love Island producers, but ‘turned down the offer’.

Instead Aidan took a different path, spending his time focused on his DJ career.

His debut festival gig was at Camp Bestival Dorset in the summer of 2024, and of course, supporting him at every spin was Alison.

On the Spin Justice podcast, Aidan was honest about how his mum has helped him to reach this point of getting a one-hour set at the festival attended by 20,000 revellers.

‘Most of my jobs, she’s always helped me get the job. She’s put my foot in the door and now she’s said “Go on, carry on,”‘ he explained.

Although he is just beginning, the aspiring music star has set up YouTube and Soundcloud accounts to keep fans updated with his efforts.

Previously, Aidan had a brief taster of his mum’s TV world when he took on on Romesh Ranganathan’s quiz show Parents’ Evening in November. The panel show sees three famous faces team up with their sons, daughters, mums or dads, with their family members then having to determine how many answers to questions their loved one might know.

Viewers were amused when Aidan claimed Alison farts at the cinema. Alison may be hoping that Aidan keeps these sort of confessions (on her behalf) off the TV in future.

Alison Hammond’s Florida Unpacked

Alison and Aidan are now working together on their biggest joint venture so far – a BBC travel show.

Former holiday rep Alison and Aidan will be in Florida uncovering hidden gems, soaking up sunshine, and sharing the best budget travel tips across 10 episodes, with the first being aired tonight.

Full of compliments for Aidan, Alison has said about the handling of his first big TV job: ‘It was Aidan’s first time filming, so it felt like I had a work experience apprentice with me.

‘It was eye-opening to see how he approached it, and I realised he has the same work ethic as me – early mornings, late nights – he handled it really well! I was quite surprised, to be honest. You know how teenagers can be, but he was great!’

Aidan has repaid the compliments ahead of the first episode by celebrating Alison’s professionalism.

‘I learned that she’s actually a professional at her job. I used to think presenting was easy, like, “Oh yeah, she just stands there and talks.”’ he admitted.

A surprised Aidan added: ‘But then I actually had to do it myself, and I realised, “Wow, she’s really good at this!”‘

Alsion Hammond’s Florida Unpacked begins on BBC Two and iPlayer from Monday 27 January at 6.30pm. All ten episodes are available to stream now.
