Jeremy Clarkson has been dealt some more bad news after the ongoing disasters his pub has been facing in recent months.
The Clarkson’s Farm star, 64, admitted towards the end of last year that he was suffering a series of ‘total disasters’ behind the scenes of his Oxfordshire pub after expenses over various issues kept piling up.
He revealed that he had to hire ‘a whole team of chemically trained hazmat engineers’ to deal with an accident in one of the outside toilets, only managed to sell five of the 40 Christmas turkeys they’d ordered, and that 104 glasses had been stolen.
Clarkson opened his Farmer’s Dog Pub in August after the success of his Diddly Squat farm and shop, and reportedly splurged a whopping £1,000,000 but has been facing immense backlash over prices of food and merchandise since – including a pie for £199.
He’s now revealed he’s facing further problems in trying to make his pub profitable.
Writing in his column in The Sun, he said: ‘The rot started with the smoking ban, which forced the nation’s fun people into the wind and the rain until it dawned on them that staying at home for a smoke and a pint was easier.
‘Then came Brexit which caused huge staff shortages, and the sudden rise in energy costs which means cooking a poached egg now costs £15,000.

‘Then we got Rachel Reeves and her madcap ideas on National Insurance.
‘And now comes news they’re thinking of lowering the drink-drive limit to a point where a spoonful of sherry trifle will be enough to put you on the bus for 12 months.’
He added: ‘I wish they’d back off, because the fact is this. You don’t have a village school any more, or a village bobby or a village doctor. If the village pub has to close as well, what’s left?’
His comments come after it was revealed this week that half of motorists pulled over on suspicion of drug-driving fail roadside drug tests, an investigation has found, sparking calls for a fresh approach to tackle the ‘growing epidemic’.

Meanwhile, in December, it was reported that laws on drink and drug-driving could be reviewed amid concern about rising deaths on the roads, the Transport Secretary suggested.
Heidi Alexander said it ‘might be time to have a look at those (laws)’ as part of a wider effort to improve road safety, including new awareness campaigns.
Describing it as a ‘priority’ for her, she told LBC: ‘This is a conversation that I’ve been having with officials in the first couple of weeks that I’ve been in post.
‘I was appointed three weeks ago and one of the first things I said to do was to get the team in who are working on a new road safety strategy that my predecessor committed to. I think she was entirely right to do that.’

The drink-drive limit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, but nowhere else in Europe has a limit above 50mg/100ml.
The latest update that could affect his pub comes after Clarkson shared his worries over making profits at the pub and the farm, which he’s explored over the past seasons of his Amazon Prime Video series.
The former Top Gear star said in his column in The Times: ‘It’s galling to see how much effort is required to make so little money on the farm.
‘It’s worse at the pub. The customers are coming. There’s no problem there. But turning their visits into a profit is nigh-on impossible.’
