The costumes that the celebrities wear on The Masked Singer UK never fail to amaze fans of the ITV singing competition.

However, occasionally the celebrities behind the masks like to get involved in the design process and have a significant impact on the finished look – which was the case with this year’s star Wolf.

There are currently eight performers still left in the 2025 series: Bear, Bush, Dressed Crab, Kingfisher, Pufferfish, Snail, Teeth and Wolf.

Metro recently spoke to costume designer Tim Simpson, the managing director of Plunge Creations, who revealed the fascinating way Wolf’s costume came together, as the original idea for the look would have been extremely different.

‘We played around a lot with Wolf. I wanted to do a complete wolf in sheep’s clothing. I think somewhere amongst the team, they said that might be going too far if it looks like the wolf is wearing a lot of dead sheep, so we had to rein that back into just a really handsome coat with a fur collar,’ he said, explaining that the sheep idea might have been too ‘scary’ for kids.

In the end, Wolf’s extremely dapper suit came about with the help of the celebrity behind the mask, as they were ‘invested’ in the costume and put forward their own suggestions.

‘Wolf didn’t have great visibility, but I think they enjoyed wearing the costume. So I think they were quite invested,’ Tim shared.

‘Wolf fed back about various details in the costume, and said, “Can I have the suit, the cut of it a bit like this?” And, “Can I have the trousers looking a certain way?”

‘Even though it’s quite a heavy one to wear – because it’s got a lot of layers, and it’s quite warm – because they’d engaged in the process along the way, I think they were already on board with it by the time they hit the stage.’

Tim added that Wolf was the only star of this year’s series who said that they wanted their costume to look a certain way, as they had some ‘fairly clear ideas’ about the vision for the character.

So far, guesses for the person singing as Wolf on The Masked Singer UK have ranged from Location, Location, Location Phil Spencer to Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon, U2’s Bono and Doctor Who legend David Tennant.

Among the cryptic clues provided in the video packages, there have been hints towards a connection to property, the church, chess or a game of strategy, and some sort of an affinity for Skittles.

Will we manage to piece the jigsaw puzzle before the big reveal?

The Masked Singer UK returns on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
