Netflix lovers, the time has almost come to say goodbye to one of your favourite shows.

From Gossip Girl to Prison Break and all the newbies in between, the streaming giant has no shortage of TV shows you’d be happy to binge. But there’s one show you may want to watch sooner rather than later.

It was recently announced that Breaking Bad’s long-time home at Netflix is coming to an end in 2027 due to a licensing agreement.

While it was initially meant to depart the streamer as early as this month, they came to an agreement with Sony Pictures Television to extend streaming rights for another two years.

So, with five seasons and 62 episodes in total, viewers will have more than enough time to get through the series once, twice, or even three times if they so desire.

Despite an extension deal presumably being made with the intention of keeping fans happy, it doesn’t seem to have worked and has resulted in a mixed bag of emotions.

Taking to the social media site X, many shared their upset at the decision.

A confused @jahKobain1300 commented: ‘Why? This one the greatest series of all time’.

While an upset @eastcoastcan420 pointed out too many good shows have already departed the streamer: ‘Nooooo, we already lost @Wentworth @Wentworth_UK ,why @BreakingBad ? Y’all trying to take away my enjoyment. Better not touch trailer park boys. That’s my go to show. I’ll be devastated.’

A devastated @Kelli admitted: ‘Breaking Bad is the only reason why Netflix gets my monthly payment. I watch Breaking Bad at least once a month start to finish, best TV series ever made. I’ll never get tired of it.’

Another viewer, @JayLovatt1 replied to the announcement: ‘Noo. I don’t want it to go it’s such a good series’.

Some social media users struggled to see the issue, though, writing that it’s plenty of time to get through the series before it departs Netflix.

@NEEDcreations joked: ‘Okay, so this gives me enough time to watch it 614 more times.’

‘Oof. Only 26 months to binge the entire series in 3 days again,’ @schweitzer_wil added lightheartedly.

Meanwhile, one crafty fan shared that the departure won’t be a problem for him at all: ‘I own the Blu-Ray set in the miniature Methylamine barrel, so this will not affect me’, @AIandDesign wrote.

Over the years, the show has maintained a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (Picture: Frank Ockenfels/AMC)

Breaking Bad was first released in 2008 and had a bit of a slow start with audiences, earning just 1.4million viewers with its first episode. However, things quickly turned around and by the second and third seasons, viewership was steadily increasing.

It came as a surprise to the network, AMC, as most shows were known to follow a usual downward trend the longer they went on.

At the time of airing its final episode in 2013, viewership reached over 10.3 million viewers and has since gone on to be described by critics and fans alike as one of the greatest television shows of all time.

The series is based on the life of a high-school chemistry teacher Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, as he learns he has stage-three lung cancer.

While processing the emotions that come with his own mortality, the protagonist decides he must secure his family’s financial future and turns to a life of crime where he produces and distributes methamphetamine with a former student, Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul.

Holding a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the series has received countless reviews, many praising it for its ability to be both funny and serious, and completely unpredictable.

News of its departure from Netflix comes amid news that the streamer is once again raising prices for some subscribers.

Price hikes will be enforced in the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. It has not yet been announced if the UK will see any changes in price.

Breaking Bad is available to stream on Netflix now.
