There are only a few more days to binge the first series of a ‘fantastic’ thriller on Netflix before the hugely-anticipated second season lands.
The Recruit premiered in 2022 and followed To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before star Noah Centineo as lawyer Owen Hendricks, whose life is instantly flipped upside down when he starts working for the CIA.
He finds himself plunged into complex international conflicts almost immediately, leading him into dangerous situations that are beyond his control.
For those of us who are having withdrawals from Black Doves, the second season of Recruit is here to fill that void, with all six episodes dropping on the streaming service on January 30.
It will pick up directly after the events of the season one finale cliffhanger, with the synopsis teasing more trouble in store for Owen and co.
The official synopsis reads: ‘Season two of The Recruit finds CIA lawyer, Owen Hendricks pulled into a life-threatening espionage situation in South Korea, only to realize that the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the Agency.’

The Recruit currently boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 84% from impressed viewers, compared to a critics ranking of 68%.
Heaping praise, user James K wrote: ‘Fantastic all round show! Great wit and action, definitely worth the watch, looking forward to seeing season 2. Highly recommended.’
Lee T agreed: ‘Finding myself liking this more than I anticipated. Good mix of serious situations with wit and style.
‘Fun if you like this type of show. Not boring or slow. Not too obvious with decent writing which honestly, is saying a lot these days.’

‘A light-hearted, tongue in cheek and – above all – fresh thriller series about a CIA lawyer operative who bumbles beautifully from one mishap into another,’ Sam B said.
‘The humour, story and suspense is nicely balanced and keeps you watching until you’re at the last episode. Want to have a fun cheerful evening? Watch this, you won’t regret it.’
Steven M commented: ‘One of my most enjoyed streaming shows. Very humurous as well as exciting. Corny moments are few although the storyline is fantastically complicated. This and the Diplomat are my two most recent favorites.’
As Kevin G added: ‘I was very very surprised with how much I enjoyed this! Clever, engaging, good plot, good acting, good characters. Very excited for season 2!’

Thankfully, we only have a few days left to wait to catch up with Owen and co, and the second series will pick up directly after that shock season one ending.
‘Owen’s headspace is complete chaos,’ Noah teased of his character. ‘He has just witnessed Max — the former CIA asset whom he almost died multiple times trying to protect — get shot by her daughter Nichka.
‘Owen is wondering how in the hell he is going to survive the next few seconds of his life.’

‘This show lives in propulsion,’ creator Alana Hawley added to Netflix. ‘So we immediately throw Owen in the deep end, which is where he’s the most fun.
‘It seemed like a great way to start season two — and then we just never let our foot off the gas.
‘Owen knows that if he does not walk away with a win this season, his career is going to be over. He might go to prison.
‘Depending on what people are into, they can show up this season for the big, flashy, splashy action stuff, but they can also be on a journey with this guy who’s just trying to fix something that he broke.’
The Recruit is available to stream on Netflix now.
