A new romantic comedy series from Lena Dunham is set to follow a hopeless romantic as she struggles through the dating scene of London.
We can guarantee that if you’re a fan of Bridget Jones, complete with all of the film franchise’s romance faux pas, then this show is going to be right up your alley.
While Nobody Wants This was Netflix’s break-out comedy hit of 2024, Too Much is set to be the next big binge-watch for subscribers.
Eight years after Lena Dunham’s groundbreaking series Girls wrapped, the writer is now about to release her first TV project since then.
Too Much comes from the producers behind Love Actually and was co-created by Lena and her husband Luis Felber.
So what is the show all about, which will undoubtedly become many people’s new 2025 obsession? Here’s all you need to know.
What is Too Much About?
Too Much follows a workaholic writer from New York who decides to move to London in search of adventure.

The 10-episode series stars Megan Stalter (best known for playing the bumbling and wildly incompetent Kayla in Hacks) as Jessica who decides she’s had enough of the US after a particularly painful break up.
When watching an English period drama, she decides that life could be better across the Atlantic and she packs up her life and hops on a plane, but quickly discovers living in London might not be as glamorous as expected.
Her intention to live a life of solitude like a Brontë sister also quickly gets thrown a curve ball when she meets Felix (played by The White Lotus’ Will Sharpe) soon after arriving in the UK.
Although the two quickly form a connection, things aren’t as simple as she might hope as they get to know each other… as it’s been teased that Felix is also ‘less Hugh Grant in Notting Hill and more Hugh Grant’s drunken roommate’.
When is Too Much being released on Netflix?
Although an air date is yet to be announced, the series will air sometime this year on Netflix.

What has Lena Dunham said about Too Much?
Speaking at the Next on Netflix event in London this week, which was attended by Metro, Lena said that while of her own experiences moving to and living in the UK informed the storyline, the star of the show made the role her own.
‘I’m sure many of you have fallen in love with Megan Stalter from her work as Kayla on Hacks, the not very competent, but utterly delightful assistant.
‘What I love about her is she is truly an old fashioned physical comedian in the vein of, you know, Carol Burnett or Elaine May, but she has something really modern and also really sweet about her, and she can move between intense comedy and heavy drama with ease,’ she explained.

‘She just felt like the perfect foil to feel how Americans contrast against the people of this nation, because it didn’t take very long for me to realise that while you technically speak the same language, there are some vast differences that I am still coming to understand.’
The 38-year-old went on to share that while the show ‘does touch on some heavy topics’, it was ultimately a comedy whose goal it was to ‘bring joy’.
‘You can take a half hour away from your day and feel like you are part of a world that is truthful, but just a little more sweet and tender than the actual world that we live in,’ she added.

Her break-out role in Hacks then came in 2021, and since then she’s also appeared in Queer as Folk and as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
