Brooklyn Nine-Nine is officially leaving Netflix in the US – sort of (Picture: Shutterstock)
One of the biggest comedies on Netflix is about to be removed– but there’s a twist in store for users.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine ran for eight seasons in total between 2013 and 2021, with Andy Samberg leading the cast alongside Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Andre Braugher, Chelsea Peretti, Melissa Fumero, and Joe Lo Truglio.
Fans were thrilled when the first four seasons of the police sitcom were finally released on the streaming service in the US last February and immediately set about bingeing the episodes.
However, US-based viewers have been left devastated after learning that there is a huge change coming for the available episodes.
The first two seasons will now be leaving the platform on February 26 in a mix-up, with bosses instead adding the fifth and sixth that same day.
All episodes will remain on the UK version of Netflix, and the series can also be streamed in full on Peacock.

Flocking to social media, many shared their heartbreak about the switch, branding it the ‘worst thing to happen to America this year’.
Reddit user Gr8bitPlayer wrote: ‘So instead of adding the remaining seasons, they’re removing it?
‘Cool. Cool. C-c-c-cool. C-c-c-c-c-c-c-cool., etc.’
JTRDovey fumed: ‘Noo! They already took Community away from me, my only binge show left to stream will be Lucifer. And that’s not a comfort show when I’m feeling sad.’

Altfillischryan confirmed: ‘It looks like it will only be seasons 1 and 2 leaving Netflix, not all 4 seasons, and also, they are adding seasons 5 and 6 at the same time.’
In a separate comment, they added: ‘If they aren’t going to give us all 8 seasons on Netflix (which seems unlikely IMO), I’d much rather they replace all 4 seasons instead of just 2 because both starting and finishing the show on a different platform is just odd.’
Brooklyn Nine-Nine premiered on our screens in 2013, following a group of NYPD officers at the fictional 99th precinct as they welcomed a new captain to their team, Captain Raymond Holt (Andre).
The series became an instant classic, with star-studded cameos and hugely quotable scenes – it ended in 2021 after eight years.
In the time since, the cast had previously expressed how much they would love to reprise their roles eventually – but this changed after Braugher’s death in 2023.
The beloved actor died at the age of 61, following a battle with lung cancer, and his castmates were among the first to pay tribute.

Fumero, who played detective Amy Santiago, was recently questioned on whether the squad could return for a reboot, and insisted that they wouldn’t be able to reprise their roles without Braugher.
‘Oh gosh. We’ve definitely all played with the idea, and we definitely all miss each other so much, and miss spending our days together,’ she told ScreenRant.
‘I don’t think we could ever do it, though, without Andre, so I don’t know that that would happen.
‘I hope to work in other things with everyone. Stephanie and I have a podcast together now, and I think we’ll just always be looking for ways to work together again.’
