An Outnumbered star has said she was ‘nervous’ to start a radically different new career away from acting weeks after the Christmas special.

Ramona Marquez, 23, reprised her role as Karen in the BBC sitcom, which follows the lives of the chaotic but relatable Brockman family.

However, she has now thrown herself into a completely new venture – and has retrained as a tattoo artist.

On TikTok, Ramona revealed she had completed her first week as a professional tattooist at El Museo Studio in south London.

She shared clips of herself at work, including her set-up, inking her first client and her tattoo designs.

Ramona captioned the video: ‘Beginning of the week I was so ready but also a little nervous naturally.’

Concluding her first week had been a success, she continued: ‘So proud of myself for doing it despite being scared AF and having to deal with severe ADHD that makes things so much harder.

‘Trying to remind myself that because of my ADHD I may make mistakes with timings and bookings but that is out of my control and it’s okay. It doesn’t mean I can’t or shouldn’t be doing it.’

Her followers were admiring her handiwork and were clamouring for bookings with the newly qualified tattoo artist.

Among them was @ellie, who said: ‘How do I book because I genuinely think it would be an honour to be tattooed by you’

@spoppy028pops exclaimed: ‘You made my childhood! And now as an adult I can get tattooed by you!!!’

@Anna enthused: ‘Such a huge step, and you smashed it! It’s only up from here.’

@Vee added: ‘You’re so good omg especially considering it’s your first week with clients.’

The return of Outnumbered on Boxing Day did not land exactly how Ramona hoped.

On top of the usual humour, chaotic family shenanigans, an unwanted guest in the form of friend Jane (Hattie Morahan) and an adorable new family member, there was a more serious storyline as Pete (Hugh Dennis) has been diagnosed with treatable prostate cancer.

However, some fans on X complained Outnumbered, which also featured a stressed new dad Jake (Tyger Drew-Honey) suffering from marital and parental woes, was ‘depressing.’

In response to the backlash, Ramona wrote on her Instagram Story: ‘Thank you for all your kind messages it means so much to me … someone said there was a lot of negativity over on twitter and that made me sad 🙁 So thank you for the love and support’.

Co-creator Guy Jenkin explained at a Q&A attended by Metro they decided on the storyline as they wanted viewers who were also dealing with cancer to feel less alone.

‘There’s still a stigma attached to the word cancer, and we just wanted to show how very, very normal it is, as well as how the Brockmans dealt with it with warmth, love, and especially humour, because that’s a very British way of dealing with that sort of stuff,’ he added.

Outnumbered first aired for five series from 2007 until 2014 on BBC One. It was later revived for a Christmas special on Boxing Day 2016, which attracted an average of seven million viewers.

Outnumbered is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
