The BBC has reportedly recommissioned The Capture for a third series.

The tense mystery thriller has been a hit with viewers and critics with a fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%, and fans have been waiting for some good news since the second season first started in August 2022.

It’s been well over two years since series two ended, but now it appears a new six episode run is on the cards.

According to TV Zone, production listings reveal the show is set to start production this spring.

The news is yet to be officially announced by the Beeb, but fans are already excited by the possibility of more episodes to come.

‘So happy it’s coming back it’s such a great series,’ wrote @angelathompson5, while @terrettcorey added: ‘This is exciting! Loved S2 🙌’

The Capture first aired in 2019, as the intelligence and surveillance drama tackled the world of fake news and deepfake technology.

Both series followed DCI Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger), who is part of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

After the second series in 2022, Holliday gave some hope for a third series as she revealed her intrigue over where the story will go.

‘It goes on such a journey from the beginning, Carey and the plot,’ she told Radio Times magazine.

‘It goes on such a massive journey throughout season two that where we’re left, the world and Correction as we leave it at the end, I want to know what happens next.’

She admitted she would ‘love to watch season three’, adding: ‘I’d love to know where Carey went.’

Even before the second run had finished airing, fans were clamouring for a comeback – and now they might finally get their wish.

‘Me getting a petition signed so we can get a season three #TheCapture,’ one fan said at the time.

‘#TheCapture is just the best drama. Please be a series three @BBCOne,’ pleaded a second viewer on X.

The BBC has declined to comment on the speculation.

The Capture is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
