A star of Severance revealed he had to convince his co-stars he wasn’t doing drugs after suffering a non-stop nosebleed.

Adam Scott, 51, stars as Mark Scout in the Apple TV Plus series, which follows the employee of the fictional corporation Lumon Industries who agrees to a ‘severance’ program in which his non-work memories are separated from his work memories.

The first season, which aired in 2022, was labelled ‘thought provoking’ and ‘exhilarating’ and was also nominated for 14 Emmy Awards.

It returned to screens last week to similar acclaim; however Adam has now spoken about a slightly awkward situation that played out on set while filming season 2.

‘I got a concussion at one point,’ he said during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week.

Although he didn’t detail how it happened over concerns it could ruin a scene in the show, Adam explained what unfolded in the aftermath.

‘A little while later, I got this nosebleed that would not stop,’ he continued.

‘Like, no matter what we did, we could not get my nose to stop bleeding. It was disgusting and frustrating, but also, when there’s an actor who has a nose that will not stop bleeding, obviously, it’s cocaine, right? We all know this.’

The talk show host then joked the bloody nose had been caused by Adam not paying his drug dealer and being knocked into a wall in retribution.

‘So I was just, I was just sort of overcompensating and making way too many cocaine jokes. Trying to reassure everyone that it wasn’t cocaine,’ Adam went on.

Despite his best efforts, he said that ‘by the end of the day, everyone thought it was cocaine’.

However, when his nose wouldn’t stop bleeding, he eventually needed to see a doctor and had the inside of his nose cauterised, with Seth then holding up a photo of Adam while the procedure was underway.

When Severance returned to screens this week, fans rushed to share their thoughts, calling the new episodes a ‘masterpiece’ and ‘exceptional’.

Although the plot has largely been under lock and key, creator Dan Erickson has teased a ‘dire’ fallout for the crew of workers.

Severance is streaming on Apple TV Plus.
