Since hitting our screens in 2022, The Traitors has become a national obsession with viewers lapping up the game of deception and deceit.

The three seasons of the UK version, the most recent of which came to a dramatic end last week, have offered up countless hilarious, shocking and emotional moments as a group of everyday people have been tasked with working together to build up a prize pool whilst also murdering and banishing each other from the game.

Although Harry Clark leaving Mollie Pearce blindsided last year when revealing he was a Traitor and would be taking all the prize money left many gobsmacked, it’s far from the most explosive finale we’ve seen.

On the second season of The Traitors Australia, three Traitors made it to the final, sparking gripping scenes not yet beaten by any season of the show globally.

Despite seeing Harry hoodwink close friend Mollie had many screaming at their screens, some have said that conclusion had nothing on what the Aussie Traitors did to secure a win.

Airing in 2023, the second season was a complete rollercoaster. After getting rid of five of their own, the Faithfuls then caught their first Traitor.

This season mixed everyday Aussies with celebrities, including actors and reality stars. One of them was My Kitchen Rules’ Ash Pollard who didn’t last long as a Traitor after 27-year-old marketing consultant Sam convinced the others she wasn’t to be trusted.

Sam repeatedly faced pressure from the group but told them he was on their side. He wasn’t.

In the early stages of the game, Sam gave himself the nickname ‘The Sheriff’ and detailed his plans to get rid of anyone who questioned him.

His actions were completely ruthless and despite his brutal gameplay, he largely went undetected by the Faithfuls, who many called ‘clueless’ as they continued to inadvertently turn against their own.

Speaking ahead of the show, Sam teased just how far he was willing to go to win: ‘I have a really good game face, I’m just gonna be nice and pleasant, but when it really comes down to the crunch, I know what I need to do.’

After Ash was banished, 11 Faithfuls were murdered or banished as well, eventually leaving three Traitors in the final.

There alongside Sam in the last episode were beer sales manager Blake Willoughby, 35, and former federal agent Camille Chicheportiche, 53.

Throughout the season Sam had tried to boot out Blake but after his efforts proved futile (with one massive blow-out between the pair unfolding too) they decided to recruit Camille in the hopes she might distract from them and be sent packing.

It didn’t happen and instead all three were left facing the Traitor’s dilemma.

The game was then able to end one of three ways depending on whether each chose to Share or Steal. If all Traitors chose to share, they would get an equal split of the pot.

But if one Traitor chose the Steal option, anyone who chose to Share would miss out on the pot. However, if two chose to Steal and one wanted to Share, they’d miss out on getting any of the $208,000 (£107,000) prize money.

Sensing the boys had no intention of playing fair, Camille declared that if she wasn’t going to win, ‘none of us were going to’ and decided to Steal despite telling them she would Share. That meant the money was left unclaimed and all walked away empty-handed.

The reactions of the two men were almost uncomfortable to watch, with Blake breaking down and Sam lashing out and making personal digs towards Camille, telling her they had ‘deserved’ it and she ‘should have let us have it’.

Weighing in, host Rodger Corser declared that justice was ‘a dish best served cold’.

After watching, many viewers said it was ‘the best ending of any of the series yet’.

Last week others also urged fans of the franchise to go watch the season if they hadn’t tuned in yet.

‘If you thought last night’s final of The Traitors was anti-climactic, please watch season 2 of the Australian series. I’ve never seen an ending to any kind of reality game show like it,’ Tegan posted on X.

‘Best ever series of The Traitors, jaw dropping finale,’ Chris commented.

Meanwhile Ross wrote: ‘We’ve now watched the two seasons of the US, UK and Australian Traitors. Australia season 2 is *by far* my favourite of them all. Yes, there is some absolute garbage gameplay (I was yelling at the TV during the final two episodes) but it’s still a super fun season.’

Others said it left them ‘shaken to the core’.

Speaking to Metro after the finale, Camille said she ‘never considered’ letting the other two take all the money.

Instead, she was ‘ready to let Sam know who the boss was’ and called his personal attack ‘a real insight into the type of person he was’.

Offering an insight into the aftermath, Camille said she went back inside and drank champagne with the producers to celebrate the end of the show.

‘Those boys went to their rooms and sooked like little children and I got to drink champagne to the control room. I drank it like I was a winner, because I was,’ she quipped.

Despite reaching out to both after the cameras stopped rolling, Camille never heard back from either and said they ‘refused’ to speak with her.

‘I think if I was one of the reality TV stars or a male they would have said “good game”, but I was an older female and a sort of nobody to them,’ she shared.

The original version of The Traitors, De Verraders, first aired in the Netherlands in 2021. It’s since been followed by spin-offs in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, among many others, with an Irish version due this year too.

However, after two seasons, the Australian version was cancelled, reportedly due to low ratings.

The Traitors UK, Australia, US and New Zealand are all streaming on BBC iPlayer.
