The Traitors is entering a tense final week of backstabbing, betrayal and shocking confessions – but fans are worried one twist could change the whole game.

The show has already been a rollercoaster ride with Traitor Linda making herself a certified icon, Charlotte faking a Welsh accent, and diplomat Alexander winning over the nation’s heart. But now we could have our biggest twist yet.

At the end of last Friday’s episode, the hit BBC reality series aired a preview of the final three episodes.

During the teaser, host Claudia Winkleman ominously declared: ‘I’m going to award one of you with an extraordinary power that has the potential to turn the entire game on its head.’

Although we don’t know exactly what Claudia is talking about, fans are speculating it could be a game-changing power based on a book they have seen in the library titled ‘The Seer’.

In traditional Werewolf gameplay (upon which Traitors is loosely based), the player who is appointed the seer is allowed to make an official guess on who they believe to be a Traitor.

Their guess is then confirmed by the moderator (in this case Claudia), thus giving the Faithfuls a whole new avenue of power to root out the Traitors depending on how the Seer uses this information.

It has been used in international seasons of the show (such as The Traitors France) before but never in the UK version making fans nervous of the implication, if the show truly is hinting at introducing the curveball.

‘I think it ruins the game. Because say Freddy gets it and he chooses to scan Minah all that hard work to be ruined by some bs,’ Reddit user @GoatedonthesticksM8 wrote.

‘It really depends on what stage of the game it occurs and how much trust the person who gets it has,’ @lost-and-dumbfound argued, saying that either the Faithful is fully believed or immediately comes under suspicion of trying to deflect from their own treachery.

‘The challenge would be then Freddy A) convincing the rest that he does have the ability and is telling the truth (potentially particularly tricky if he chooses to confide in Charlotte.

‘And B) effectively targeting Minah at the round table without immediately just putting a huge target on his own back,’ @mjjankulovski pointed out.

There was also concern for the potential twist on X, especially if it came ahead of the final where the contestants are not told whether they have just banished a Faithful or Traitor.

‘I don’t understand how this would work for the show, if the Seer is basically told who the Traitors are then surely they can just tell everyone else and boom that’s the end of the game??’ @sabrinajaine said.

‘Oh I haaaaaaate this,’ @regissphilbin added.

However, some viewers remain optimistic that it will make for an even more tense finale, and even have a favourite for who they would want to get the power.

‘I know whoever gets it will probably be completely random but Alexander just feels like he would be absolutely the perfect person to get this,’ @milfsyuri shared.

‘This would be so cool!! And I would love this. And you know who would be perfect for it? Alexander,’ @carolanne17_ echoed.

‘Omg this would be extremely cool! Clocked the book and wondered if it might be hinting at something,’ @squeak_208 said.

‘Oh please God let this be the twist!!! I’ve been saying they need to take more leaves out of the Werewolf playbook!!!’ @teganmarlow_ agreed.

It would be the first time in The Traitors UK history that a player is assigned a role that is not a Traitor or a Faithful so it would be a history-making move if true.

Who will win the game? It’s all still to play for! (Picture: BBC)

The show has seen massive success since returning for a third season with the show opener being watched by over 10 million people nationwide.

Tratiors: Uncloaked will have an extra-long special after Friday’s finale joined by the entire cast and Claudia.

There’s plenty more drama to come as we wait with bated breath to see if series-long Traitor Minah Shannon could secure the potential £120,000 prize pot after proving her expert craftiness.

Fellow Traitors Linda Rands and Armani Gouveia have already been thrown out but her recent recruitment, Charlotte Berman, could throw a spanner in the works for Minah’s path to victory.

Or perhaps our remaining Faithfuls will clock onto Minah and Charlotte’s true loyalties and banish them just in the nick of time.

One thing is for sure – it’s all to play for.

The Traitors returns for a final week this Wednesday on BBC One at 9pm
