Yellowjackets fans are ‘on their knees frothing at the mouth’ after Paramount Plus dropped the trailer for the much-anticipated season 3.
The dark thriller is the saga of a team of high school girls soccer players who become the survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.
Starring the likes of Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey and guest star Hilary Swank, the twisted drama centres on a girl’s high school football team forced to survive in the wilderness after their plane crashes on the way to the 1996 nationals.
Leaping to and fro between the teenagers’ time in the winter-ravaged backwoods and their present-day lives, Yellowjackets explores the impact of their harrowing acts of survival, including resorting to cannibalism.

According to the synopsis for season 3: ‘As summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory—the brutal winter that nearly claimed them is finally behind them, but distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardize their chances of being rescued.
‘In the present, long-buried secrets from their pasts begin to surface. As the women fight to keep their lives from unravelling, they must confront a chilling question: who are they really, and what dark truths are they hiding from each other and themselves?’
Melanie, 47, who plays Shauna, previously spoke to Metro about viewers’ fascination with the cannibalism featured in Yellowjackets.
‘I understand it’s fascinating to people,’ she said. ‘[But] it’s not what I typically lead with. It’s also the least interesting thing to me.’

Melanie continued: ‘I think that once people start watching the show, they see how many layers there are to it.
‘There was a time early on when season one was airing and people were like, “You need to look at Reddit. It’s so fun”.’
The Heavenly Creatures actress added: ‘Near the end of the season, people [on Reddit] were like, “Where’s the cannibalism? There’s not enough cannibalism”.
‘And I was like, really? It should be other things making you want to watch the show.’
Yellowjackets has been a critical triumph with season one holding a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, while season two received 93%.
It has also been nominated for ten Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Yellowjackets season 3 is coming to Paramount Plus on Friday, February 14.
