A sci-fi series that’s been hailed as a ‘hidden gem’ is seemingly being removed from its UK streaming platform – so subscribers wishing to catch up need to make sure they binge it quickly.

The Expanse first premiered almost a decade ago in 2015, based on the novels of the same name by James S A Corey.

In a tale set 200 years in the future – in which humans have colonised the Solar System – the search for a missing woman results in an enormous conspiracy being unravelled.

The first three seasons of the drama aired on the American TV channel SyFy, before moving to Amazon Prime Video for the final three seasons before its finale in 2022.

The streaming giant has now revealed that for some subscribers, The Expanse – which stars actors including James Holden, Alex Kamal, Naomi Nagata and Amos Burton – will be removed within the next 30 days

In a post shared on Reddit, one user called stolencheesecake questioned if the show was being dropped on Amazon Prime Video, writing: ‘Has anyone else noticed that The Expanse is listed under ‘Titles expiring in the next 30 days’? Is this intentional? Is it season-by-season only?’

They added that ‘this seems regional to UK and/or Europe’, and might only affect the first season of the show.

Metro also saw The Expanse listed in the category of TV shows expiring within the next 30 days.

However, it wasn’t clear which territories this referred to when we spotted it and which seasons of the programme could be removed, if not all of them.

Reacting to the Reddit post, another user called Common_Tiger1526 commented: ‘Glad I asked for a physical copy of this series for Christmas,’ while palebelief added: ‘Reason #47632 why possessing physical copies of media is good.’

Sixybeast626 also shared: ‘I still have a slim small hope we might get further adaptations of the final books.’

Over on X, several people have raved about The Expanse, which boasts a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 90% rating from audiences.

‘If you haven’t watched The Expanse on Amazon Prime do yourself a favour and watch it!’ ThayCallMeMonty wrote.

;A hidden gem that one day people are going to wake up to and say it’s one of the best sci-fi TV shows ever!’

LiamRudden said that they’d just finished watching the first three seasons, before calling it ‘one of the best sci-fi series in a very long time’.

‘Delighted I still have another three seasons to catch up on,’ they added.

Meanwhile, kalina_kangaroo admitted that they didn’t yearn for the experience of watching The Expanse for the first time again, because they knew that rewatching the series would ‘blow them away anyway’.

High praise, if we ever saw it!

Metro has contacted Amazon for further information.

The Expanse is available to stream on Prime Video and can also be streamed on Apple TV Plus.
