Ugly Betty actor Ana Ortiz has renewed hopes of an onscreen reunion after revealing the cast of the hit 00s show is still ‘very, very close’.

The 53-year-old star played Hilda Suarez in the beloved 00s show which ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2010 about the titular Betty (America Ferrera) who is thrown into the cutthroat world of fashion.

The series, which streamed on Channel 4in the UK, cultivated a devoted fandom and pulled in impressive viewer figures during its time on air, making its ending all the more bittersweet.

Years later, the cast has remained close making the possibility of a reboot all the more likely.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Love, Victor star Ana answered a fan question about a potential reunion special.

‘There’s been so much talk about it, thank you for asking,’ Ana optimistically replied.

She continued: ‘I literally just texted with Michael Urie. I see Mark Indelicato probably every day. America is my son’s godmother. Judith Light’s husband is my son’s godfather because we got two for the price of one with Judith and Robert [Desiderio, her husband].

‘We’re very, very close and we’re all really wanting to do a reunion.’

It’s not the first time someone from the cast has shared their enthusiasm for a reboot.

In 2023, America offered a small hope that it could be possible.

‘I would love that. I think it’s like complicated but I would love it,’ she told Access Hollywood.

And Eric Mabius, who played player turned love interest Daniel Meade, spoke about ‘something being discussed’ as far back as 2021.

‘We had an abrupt ending and I think that we all felt that we didn’t have enough time to finish telling the stories that needed to be told,’ he said at the time.

The series came to a somewhat unsatisfying conclusion when viewers were not given a definitive answer on whether Betty and Daniel ultimately end up together.

The award-winning show has been praised for its groundbreaking representation of the Latin-American community and LGBTQ+ issues over the years.

And the stars have gone on to have lucrative careers.

Most notably America, 40, received an Oscar nomination for her performance in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

Vanessa Williams, who played the scheming Wilhelmina, is currently starring in West End’s Devil Wears Prada Musical as Miranda Priestley.

And Mark, who starred as fan-favourite character Justin, has appeared in various hit TV shows including Hacks and With Love.

As for Michael, he has wowed fans with his brilliant role as an optimistic lawyer and best friend Brian in Apple TV Plus series Shrinking opposite Jason Segel.

Hopefully, they can all find time in their busy schedules to take a trip down memory lane sooner rather than later.

Ugly Betty is available to stream on Channel 4.
