An epic sci-fi series that some fans have hailed as being even better than Netflix’s Black Mirror is available to stream – and viewers can binge all 10 episodes in one go.
In 2017, Electric Dreams – a show inspired by the works of novelist Philip K. Dick – premiered on Channel 4 in the UK, boasting a star-studded cast including Bryan Cranston, Terrence Howard, Timothy Spall, Janelle Monáe, Vera Farmiga and Holliday Grainger.
It’s now available on Amazon Prime Video, so you can watch each episode which follows a different story and characters, such as in the opening instalment titled The Hood Maker, which reveals a society where telepaths are discriminated against.
In another, titled The Father Thing, a young boy discovers that aliens are using body doubles to replace humans on Earth, after he grows suspicious of his own father.
Given the nature of the show as an anthology sci-fi series, parallels have inevitably been drawn with Black Mirror – while there are plenty of Electric Dreams fans who rated the drama a praiseworthy perfect five stars.
One fan called Shekhar wrote in a Google review: ‘It’s an excellent watch for all sci-fi lovers; it’s creative, artistic and thought-provoking. It ventures into the what-ifs and makes you question your own reality sometimes. It also has a wonderful cast for the added drama and throws in a pinch of thriller vibes to keep things entertaining and interesting.’

Andre also shared: ‘All episodes have famous actors and the storyline pulls you in into the story. A must watch for sci-fi fans. Better than Black Mirror in the sense that most episodes have happy endings and Black Mirror had only San Junipero in the 1st season. Some of the CGI might not be as good as other shows, but everything else is 5 stars.’
Tonianne added that they were ‘so sad’ that Electric Dreams only ran for one season, outlining how each episode felt like they were mini movies’ as they were ‘so detailed and intense’ and left them wanting more at the end.
Over on Reddit, more fans agreed about the Black Mirror comparisons, with some also stating that they enjoyed it more than the Netflix hit.

One user named OdiousLife wrote in a post: ‘Just watched all of Philip K, Dick’s Electric dreams and it’s better than Black Mirror.
‘It gets better and better as it goes along, with the last two episodes in particular being amazing.’
However, there were other viewers who disagreed, saying that in their view, Electric Dreams shouldn’t be deemed as a greater show than Black Mirror.
Some also admitted that they weren’t overly impressed by Electric Dreams, and several people also recommended another sci-fi show to watch called Dimension 404, another anthology series that premiered in 2017.
Well, now that Electric Dreams is fully available on Prime Video in the UK, you can watch the whole thing and have your say!
